New to the forum ,so let me ask for advise on putting rings ,and scope on my Christmas gift from my wife. I'm the proud owner of FN-FAR , 20 INCH HEAVY- IN 308,   My past experience is with open , than peep sights with smaller calibers. My club is finally stretching our range from 300 to1000 yards, Time to flex my muscle!.Any one with the experience that can tell me what type of scope , and rings too top it off with would be of great help, thanx ,Seabee.

WELCOME...

Yippee

What a neat gift.

FNAR's are the cats meow for accuracy out of the box in a Semi-Auto.

You will be surgical.

Dare I say maybe two scopes.

I think a 10x would be a great fit for the long distance stuff.

Maybe a smaller 3-9 for the shorter work.

SWFA SS Family and you cannot go wrong.

I might even suggest  a 6x fixed just to see what you prefer...

Rings You cannot go wrong with the Seekins or the TPS rings they are superb...

I tend to lean towards the TPS they seem to be fitting to a 30mm tube without any slop or any squish...

I agree with everything 338 said. I'm not a fan of 3-9 scopes, personal thing, but that is a very good range for the FNH FNAR for close-in to fairly long range shooting.
I have an FNH FNAR... to me it is an 800 yard gun with some capability beyond.  I have a Kahles ZF84 6x with German #1 reticle on mine and I LOVE it.  The Kahles ZF84's and 95's are some of the best scopes I've ever put hands on.  The SS 6x would be great for this rifle... if they had been out when I got my FNH FNAR, it would have the SS6x on it right now.
If you don't intend to hunt,  a fixed 10x would be good, but if hunting is involved, I find 10x a bit narrow in FOV unless I "set" my distances and game travel areas.   Close in stuff you are probably not going to get a shot at, unless it is very slow moving or completely still.  6x FOV is generally enough wider to "make the difference".  4x is even better, but limits distance for some...
Consider a microdot add-on...  the FNH FNAR is a good home defense gun (proper understanding must be applied) that can be used to effectively take on advancing zombies...
Rings... I used TPS 26mm on my "set up"... because TPS makes great rings and they also make 26mm.  They didn't have any in stock when I needed mine... they turned them out and had them to me in 3 days from the time I spoke to them on the phone.  You just CAN'T beat that for customer service.  TPS mounting systems are fantastic in my book.  There are a number of others... I really like the Chimera rings, Aadland mounts/rings would be excellent on the FNH FNAR.  I personally steer away from Warne rings nowadays... almost ruined my SS10x on my .50BMG with Warne rings.  They loosened up in a firing string and caused a big gash in the metal on the scope... shooter noticed the rounds were stinging/wandering and started inspecting and found the ring screws had come loose.  Sorry, but with equipment like that, one chance is all you get with me... I don't use Warne anymore.
