Hi,

I'm looking at putting a scope on my CAR 16", using a carry handle mount. I've pretty much decided on a Super Sniper 10x42 (or MAYBE a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40mm lighted reticle ballistic plex).

As a mount I think I'll go with an Arms#2.

What type of rings would you recommend with this setup? I've been considering the ARMS#21, Burris Xtreme Tactical 30mm, and the Leupold PRW 30mm medium height. Is there any particular benefit of one over the other, or would anyone recommend some other rings more? Since I'll be mounting to the carry handle, I'd obviously like something as low as possible.

Thanks for any help with this,

Pat

Welcome Pat.

Go over to AR15.com in the AR Optics section and look around.

I have not used a carry handle mounted optic, and can't recommend anything, Brother. Sorry. My personal AR's have A3 recievers and I mounted the Aimpoints on top.

My military service was....a few years ago , and we just had irons back in the day.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Thanks cheaptrick,

Yeah I've looked around quite a bit on ar15.com and sniper country and this is why I've decided on the SS (or Burris 200168) and ARMS#2, and actually where I got those ring recommendations as well. Was just trying to figure out if one ring was particularly better than the other, and ESPECIALLY if a STANAG ring is any better/worse than a plain old Weaver ring.

This is for a one-size-fits-all rifle - plinking+target shooting (not competition, but i still want groups as tight as i can get em) + SHTF if such a need should ever arise. I'm getting older and my eyes ain't what they used to be, so iron sights work fine for me under 75yds or so (where i can see the target), but a scope would be very useful for any work farther than that.

I would highly recommend the ARMS #2 EXTENDED mount. This give you a little extra room to move the scope foward to get a reasonable cheek weld
