Hello,

Question for CZ 550 shooters or anyone for that matter.  I just acquired a 6.5 x 55 SE CZ 550FS (waiting to get it) and went ahead and ordered 1" mounting rings.  I was looking for fixed rings and checked out the CZ, Burris and Leupold.  I ordered the Leupold rings since they looked the trimmest in photos.  I know this may be picky but the rings I got look like clones of the other two and seem quite heavy.

I wanted something sleek keeping with the trim lines of the 550 FS; any suggestions (photos help).

Thanks,

Gerry

I have the same gun in the same caliber.  I had mine drilled and tapped for Weaver bases.  I'll check on the number and get back to you.  Because the receiver is flat it takes the same base front and rear.  I have been thinking about trying the Burris rings because they come in gloss finish to match the gun.  Would give a diferent ring spacing so I could try shorter tube scopes.

Weaver bases are #28.  If I did it again I would have put them closer together.  I went with the smith's best judgement and while OK it wold have been better if the ring spacing was closer.  Only cost like $25 about 10 years ago.  Hope this helps.

Hi!

I am a little confused.  With the nicely machined integral 19mm dovetails already on the CZ550 receiver, including a recoil shoulder for indexing, why did you drill & tap your receiver for Weaver mounts?

Confused, it seems redundant to me.

Plenty of ring choices now (Including 35mm ones for Valdada scopes) but maybe it was not so 10 years ago?

I have a CZ550FS in 9.3x62 waiting for me in Germany.  I am still looking for a decent scope for it.

10 years ago the only rings I could find (available) were CZ rings.  They wanted $75 per set.  They only came in one height and the only finsh they had was matte, which was strange because all the rifles were finshed gloss blue.  So I went down to my local gun shop and found some Weaver bases that would work if drilled and tapped.  With this set up the ring choices are huge; any weaver style ring will work.  I have considered putting fill screw in the holes and trying the (now available) Burris CZ rings because they come in a medium height gloss finish to match the gun.

That makes sense.  RIng choices seem to have gotten much better for the CZs recently.  I bought a handful (1 each of 30mm med and high and 1" med and high) from Cheaper Than Dirt, just because, well, they were cheap!  They had a 1/2 price sale.

It might be time to go back to the CZ for you as well.  I do like the integral dovetails, having seen and had mount screws loosen over time.

Thanks!

i have the same gun.
I went with the Warne QW rings.
Leupold VX III  1.5-5  is perfect for minnestoa woods hunting.

The scope can be removed and replaced in seconds and holds zero.

I may try the Burris CZ rings.  Are those Warnes QD's worth the price?
