Hi all
I'm new here at OT, but I have been impressed with the amount of information on the forum.  I am putting a rifle together for my 9 yo son for Christmas.  It will be a Remington 700 SPS Youth model in 7mm-08.  I love this caliber for deer and I think it will be a rifle he will be able to use for life (after we swap out the stock in a few years).  I have decided to go with a Nikon Team Primos 3x9 scope, since I have used a Monarch UCC for years and never been disappointed.  I would also like to use Talley light weight one piece ring/bases.

This brings me to my question, I see they have come out with an extra low (#920700) which I would like to use to help him get his head in the best position.  I am concerned about the clearance of the bolt handle though.  Has anyone mounted this particular combination?

Thanks for any help.Thunbs Up

I'd stick with the "normal low" rings, shouldn't have a problem with those.

It's possible, but chances are that no one reading this will have tried that exact combination.
If no one replies, about all you can do is try it.
It may be just as well to go with the low ones istead of the extra low, and build up the comb of the stock with a stick-on cheekpiece pad if you need to. They make the rifle a little more user-friendly anyway, for a kid especially, by softening the recoil's tap on the cheekbone. Various outfits make them in various thicknesses.

I think I'll have to agree with what Ronk said.  It's the best solution IMHO.

Thanks for the replies.  I have been giving some additional thought to this and I may change direction on the mounts...  I know Remington sometimes has issues with their hole alignment.  I don't have a reamer so I may go with the Burris Signature Dual Dovetail rings to eliminate any problems with the set up.  I have used them before without any problems.  Any thoughts?

Sorry for changing gears on everyone, I like the one piece idea, I just don't want the headache of having to correct the alignment.

I like the Burris Signature system. They always work very well and have solved a lot of alignment problems for me in the past several years.
Good choice.
