    Posted: December/15/2006 at 05:12

I have just recently purchased a Sako 75 in 300Wby.This gun has been fully customized my Hill Country Rifle. Now I am looking for opinions on what is the best mount for this setup. Here is what I am considering.

1.Leupold QR 2 piece Bases and Rings if I can find the bases.

2.Burris Dual Dovetail Bases and Burris Signature Dual Dovetail Rings

3.Original Sako Bases and Rings

4.Older Style Sako Rings with the larger screws if they will fit.

5.I have heard nothing but bad things from the Leupold Sako mount.

All input appreciated.I need good info to make an informed decision on this setup.I am either going to put a Schmidt and Bender or Zeiss V/VM on this gun.Any thoughts on scope also appreciated.

I have a 6.5x55 Sako 75 with a Schmidt & Bender 3-12x50 Precision Hunter on top. Use sakos' own Optilock mounts, haven't had any problems with them, but then it isn't the hardest kicking gun. S&B are pretty heavy scopes though, but seeing as the gun is fairly heavy itself, they kinda suit eachother.

Zeroman, nice rifle!

I had a Sako M75 SS in .300 Win mag.

I didn't care for the Opti Locs.

The cap screws were WAY too soft. They stripped out very easily. At least mine a few years ago did.

My scope, a Zeiss Conquest with a 44mm objective, had to have medium rings for the objective housing to clear.

That was OK, but it put the scope up too high for me to achieve a good cheek weld.

And lastly, the cost of the Opti's make them a "No-Go" for me.

I used Talleys Sako rings.

Very good quality, fit and finish.

Both scopes are awesome!! Hard to choose one over the other between those two Titans.

VM/V would be little lighter, I think.

I also use the Leupold Ring Mounts and liked them.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Those are medium rings on mine, could have gone with low but the (sole) distributors over here didn't have any. The price was frightening too i'll admit, but I look at it as a once off purchase. I can't comment on the screws stripping as I don't plan on having to take them off. One thing I like about the Optilocks is the plastic inserts, saves having to lap the rings and won't mar the finish on your scope.

Well bought Leupold QR Bases from SWFA. I have QR's on everything I qwn so I guess why change.Does anyone know if Leupold has discontinued the Sako QR Bases. They are for some reason about 30-40 dollars higher than any of the other QR's.
