New to the forum and need help. I have a Rem. 700 SPS Varmint w/26" heavy barrel. It come with a Winchester one piece base and is elevated in the rear (would this be a 20 MOA base?). The scope I choose is the SS 10x42 and will be using BC caps. I want the scope to be as close to the barrel as possible and will be using Badger Ord. Max-50 30mm rings. Will standard height (.823") work or will I need to go higher? Also whats the advantage of the max-alloy rings or standard?

Low rings, I guess in Badgers case standard height will work.  If you want to save a little money, those rings are way overkill for a .308.  Their regular rings or some from TPS will do all you need and more.

I found a set of lows at another website/vendor but did so only after calling SWFA and asking them if they were the same and how long it would be before they had any more.  I would check with SWFA first and if its still a long ETA they may help you find some or tell you where to look.

Get some low Burris tactical extreme rings from SWFA if they don't have any SS rings. Badger Ord. is Great stuff but do you think anytime soon your life will depend on being able to throw you rifle down a revine retrive it and keep shooting. If you anwsered NO you don't need Badger Ord. Rings . IMHO
save you coin for more trigger time.
