Not sure what height rings to go with.The scope is a SWFA 20x42 fixed power,rifle is a Remington 700 sps tactical in .308.

Lows, for most manufactures. But it also depends on the base.

The base is a Blackhawk(Made in the USA)extended multislot picatinny.

The only problem I think you might have with lows, is the objective bell hitting the extended part of the base. This is dependent on your particular eye-relief needs. It can be solved with higher rings, a lower base, or trimming the extended portion of the base off...I chose option 3!

Medium will work fine, and allow for flip up lens covers. Honestly the Low will probably work if you dont use the flip up lens covers.

On a standard pic rail and a 42mm objective?? 

I have yet to see above NOT work with LOW, tactical style rings, Gents. I think mediums would be too high. 
With flip ups. I have ran this configuration for years. 

I highly recommend Seekins low rings.
