I recently received my BSA Sweet 22 3-9x40 (it's huge!) from SWFA along with some inexpensive rings.  I am mounting this on a Remington Model 5 just for some simple target shooting, nothing competative, just some father/son stuff.  I would like to retain the stock iron sights.  When I mounted the scope with a set of standard rings, it seems to me that it's too far back.  With the standard rings, I have the scope as far forward as possible without hitting the rear sight.  There was a mix up with the order and I did not receive the high mount rings, I'm wondering if high mounts will even work or should consider some type of base or rail to allow me to move the scope farther forward?  I'm new to setting up a scope so any help is appreciated.  Any slim chance that someone has mounted this same scope/rifle combination?
