Anyone else read the article about the most accurate .308 cartridge?
Had some interesting info in there!!!  I am going to try some of the mixes and see how they shoot in my Remmy.

Yes it was excellent. I never would have thought of using CCI 250 in a small case with Varget but it sure works.

Yes the primer data shocked me due to where BR2s came in on the list. I like most people I know use BR2s. The Varget didn't surprise me at all nor the cases. So I'm willing to try the Berger bullets and the magnum primers. But I to thought it was a very well thought out and written article.

OK, Here's the deal.  After reading the article and see their data I have decided to try this out for myself.

I have loaded 168r. A-max bullets over Varget and BR-2 primers

10 rounds each at 43 Grs, 43.5 Grs, 44.0 Grs, 44.5 Grs, 45 Grs in Lapua once fired and neck sided brass trimmed to 2.05 inches.

With an COL of 2.927 inches, this puts the bullet twenty thousandth off the lands. for some reason thats where my barrel likes them.

I will attempt to to give the barrel five minutes between shots, and a cleaning after every five rounds.  So this will give me 10 five round flights.

I will then re-load the brass with all case prep work only changing to magnum primers and do it all again.

Test are great to read about, better to do yourself.

If I get results like they did.  My next test is the Burger bullets.

Stealbenz, for those of us that didn't get a chance to read the article, in a nut shell what was said, Bullets, powder, cases, primers?

Well, the jest of article was we get complacent with our ammo, we find a load that works for us but never try to tinker a load for the Most Accurate for our rifle.  All different manufacturers components were used brass, primers, bullets.  They used Varget and found it the best for the .308.  So he stayed with that.  What shocked me was CCI BR-2 (most everybody I know uses BR-2s) came in dead last in the primer category and the best were CCI 250s.  A magnum primer in a relatively small case, something I was always told as a no-no.  The normal suspects  made it in to the show for bullets Amaxs, SMKs, but the Burger VLDs took the top spot. Also for brass the normal suspects hornady, Lapua, Nosler.  I'd like to post all the details of the article but like some books I know are being past around to friends, I'm passing my copy of the magazine to friends at work that reload for the .308.

Sum it all up

Nosler brass
varget powder 45 grs. (45.5Grs shot the best group, but went with the lower charge for safety concerns in the reloading process)
CCI 250 (magnum) primers
Burger 168Gr VLD bullets.

I am sorry to seem like such an incompetent; but I still cannot find the magazine that you all reference.  I am a subscriber to Rifle magazine from Wolfe Publishing and a past subscriber for many years of their Handloader magazine but I can't find any Rifle Reloader magazine.  Can you direct me to their website as they don't come up on any search I have tried.  Thanks.

Thanks.  I thought I was just an informed boob even though I have been messing around with reloading and guns for a very long time.
By the way, I notice that you are in MT.  I intend to hunt in MT as well as NE this Fall.  I will be hunting near Ronan, MT.  I need to apply for a non-resident tag and intend to go during the rifle season for deer & pronghorn.  Are you familiar with that area of the state?
