i bought my wife a ruger compact in a 7-08 and she too is rather short 5'2 and i let her shoot 150 gr out of it and ifrom behind it looked bad from where i was standing and when i asked her if the recoil was to much she said nope its fine, then the twins came into the world and she deciced to play mom instead of being a hunter.

7mm-08 is the ticket.  Love the .260 remmy, but it's a dead caliber.  If you handload, you're OK.  If not, better buy all the ammo you can find!!!  Remmy model seven in 7mm-08 should make her smile.  And you, too, if you shoot it!  Drummer Wink

I'm not sure whats going on but I finally have the picture of the deer my g/f shot and I cropped it down so it's the right size and file type, but I get an error message.  Not sure what to do.  Thanks again for all the great replies.  I looked at a 7mm-08 and had my g/f throw it up to her shoulder.  She really liked how it felt and the light weight, it was a savage.  Maybe next summer if I have a few pennies laying around I will get her one of those.  Some uploading advice would be much appreciated.

7-08 is a fine choice my wife handled one and had no troubles, loading for the 7-08 will be easy!

I think the 7-08 is not only an ideal chambering for someone who may be recoil-sensitive, but for anyone else for that matter.  It is very efficient and handles just about anything that needs handling in a 7mm, plus it's not too fussy about load data, and it's generally very accurate.  I think it's just about the perfect cartridge for deer and mid-sized game.

I had that happen to me as well.  What worked for me is this:
1.  Save the pic to your desktop.
2.  Find the icon for the pic and RIGHT CLICK on the icon without opening up the pic and select "Edit."
3.  The picture editor will open.  Once open, verify the pic is under the minimum allowable size.  Since you already said it was, you probably don't have to do any further modification.
4.  Click on FILE > SAVE AS.  When the Save window opens, under your file name, you can select the file type.  For some reason, even though you may have saved it as a JPEG file, sometimes it doesn't act like one in terms of file size.  From the file type pulldown menu, select ".JPG" as your file extension.  The filename should show the .jpg extension when you save it.  When you select o.k., it will ask you if you want to overwrite the existing file; select "yes."
5.  Then try uploading with the normal procedure, using the insert image icon (pic of a tree) above the post editor and selecting the file you just saved back to your desktop.

Hope this helps.

Well here it is, finally.  It was showing up as a jpg but i had to go and resave it as a jpg just like rifledude said, thanks very much.  Good first deer, she has something to beat next year now.  You can see where she hit in the neck, he was quartering towards us and i told her he was in an opening and she let him have it.  The bullet went and blew the other side of the shoulder up.  The good old .25-06 with 110 gr.  accubond hand loads did the rest.

ah accubonds work great dont they i took a doe with my 6.5 rem mag this year with a 130gr accubond and was quite impressed, im going to load some 25-06's up for my father in law with those same 110's and see if i can get them shoot, the accubond takes everything about a ballistic tip thats good and makes it better by bonding it so its a tougher bullet nice buck

Here is my wifes setup.  A browning a-bolt micro in 7mm-08 with a VX-III 1.75-6x32.  Sometimes I find myself trying to sneek it out.  I really like this gun.

That is an excellent first deer for sure! Congrats! The savage is a nice rifle, all kinds of aftermarket goodies and very accurate also. I still vote for the 7mm-08 and its chambered in that round. Heck they make left handed ones too.....you could have his and hers!

I second this.  My wife doesn't hunt, but my friend's wife does.  They got a 7-08 and I shot it, I loved it.  I might consider getting one for myself.

Thanks Focus, I was able to squeez a 100yd range in my back yard.  The bench only cost me a little over $100 in lumber and a couple hours to build.  It weighs a ton and doesnt budge.  Works great for my use.
