Hunting Scope for 350 Legend (so likely under 150 yds.)
Take a look at these. I picked ones that look like they are in stock. My go to scope in the not very expensive price range is a Redfield ( out of stock), but I recently bought the Bushnell 1-4 above and really like it. Any of these should work fine for a hunting optic. You find a lot of scopes today do not have plain duplex reticle and price range matters to most guys. Not sure how you feel about power range but I think for the caliber a 1-4 is plenty and a 3-9 is about as much as I would consider. Nikon made their name with great cameras so they have name recognition going for them. I have had a couple of Nikon scopes and they have worked ok but I didn't think the glass on the first one was very good. Bushnell glass I think you get better glass than I would expect at their price point. Leupold tends to be easy to get behind but a lot of guys like other brands when it comes to their more expensive models still they make some specialty optics that are simply better than other stuff out there like their scout scope with long eye relief. I would not let a ballistic reticle stop me from buying a scope because those dots below center will represent something no matter what caliber and running a ballistics chart then spending some time on the range to confirm makes them very valuable particularly with a cartridge that drops like a rock. Yep 350 Legend just like my 45-70 takes some effort to know where it will be at different distances. Ballistic Reticles are second focal plane in theory they only work at the top power of the scope. But you could set a 1-4 on 2x work with the marks below center and so long as you set it on 2x every time you would know what they represent but 2x will be different than 3x and different than 4x. Lets say you had a ballistic reticle -- center X was 100 and the dots below for .223 .55 gr were 200, 300, 400 but you used a .350 Legend shooting Horniday 165 gr 2200 Ft Per Sec Zero at 100 yds (on top power 4x) The marks below center for a .350 Legend might be 175, 225, 275, (rough guess) 0 -1.5 25 -0.4 50 0.3 75 0.4 100 -0.0 <======<<<< Zero 125 -1.0 inches 150 -2.7 175 -5.1 200 -8.3 225 -12.3 250 -17.2 275 -23.1 300 -30.1 - Edited by Urimaginaryfrnd - February/23/2021 at 22:06 |
