I am posting this inquiry for a brother in law of mine.  He is getting a new 300 Ultra mag and needs a new scope.  What do you guys suggest?  It will be getting used for Elk primarily and also mule deer.  A friend of his suggested a Shepard rifle scope.  My family has always had leupolds and swarov's.  I would guess his price range is somewhere between $500-900 for the scope.  Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Travis

Shepard scopes have poor quality glass and construction IMO overpriced also. This scope here has the total package at a exellent price.

I respect SVDs suggestion; I believe it's a good scope. Though for hunting I would suggest the following thoughts...

When going through the brush a scope with large turrets will & can get hung up on things; as well as cutting visability above and to the sides when the rifle is being put to shoulder quick for firing.

I think this is the same IOR Hunting Ver. without the tall turrets.

Another scope I would suggest considering is the Zeiss Conquest. It will easily stay in budget and is a value - perfomance product.

Very close noddah and good thoughts but the scope that I presented is Front Focal. On a 300 RUM I do not recommend a conquest.

I have a Remington 700 LSS in 375 Ultra Mag that I have used on several moose/ elk hunts. On it I have a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10, seems to be about the perfect combination of size and magnification and NO problem holding zero between much bumping/ thumping in the field and pounding by this combo of light rifle/ awful recoiling round.Only thing that I think suffers is my shoulder.......cuz' it kicks BIG time!

Look at the meostar by meopta -

optically compares w/ Swaro and Zeiss, but more bang for the buck.

the 50mm can be had for around 670 bucks, i think - it's an excellent buy.

i have a 56mm meostar that impresses me everytime i take it out.

good luck.

let us know what you decide.
