My Rem 870 (28") is one of my favorite guns--a classic that can handle many modern roles.  I'd been thinking about getting rid of the bead front sight and upgrading to something else.  It was in the back of my mind for a couple months, when I ran across the Bushnell Holosight XLP with an integrated mounting system while cruising around e-bay.  By then, I had looked at every posibility regarding sites and optics for my multi-role shotgun.  I have to admit, the price was a bit steep, but I reckoned "you get what you pay for".  I had already dismissed a bunch of cheap junk I had seen down at the Gun Show.  I mean, if you're gonna' modify a virtually bullet-proof design, the mods better be up to the task.

competitor on e-bay:  Approx. $250

It mounted on the shotgun in seconds, and I adjusted the windage quickly.  Within a few test shots, I confirmed that no elevation adjustment was necessary for under forty yards.  15 levels of reticle brightness, with the top five easily visible in the bright California sunlight.  I shot the heck out of some bottles and clays, not one miss.  Then I screwed in an extended rifled choke and started slugging away with 2&3/4" and 3" Winchester slugs.   The Holosight made decent slug accuracy possible for the first time since I bought that gun.  And by that, I mean that with no fiddling around, standing, no sling, I was putting 1oz. slugs in four inches at about 40 yards, within minutes of mounting the sight, and I'm a newbie.

I was also impressed by the Holosight when I set up "tactical scenarios" and had to engage multiple targets spread over the hillside as quick as possible using 3" shells and 00 shot.  That's where the true value and beauty of this sight lies.  There were a few onlookers who mentioned they had never seen anyone shoot a shucker that fast and get a hit everytime.  It was also neat to shoot "both eyes open" combat-style.  DEVASTATING!!

5 rounds, 5 targets, 5 hits, box after box of shells.........

The only downside, is that now the gun has a "video-game FPS" feel to it, but I'll probably get used to that!!

Great sight.
