Hello Folks,

I went to the last Military Rifle shoot of the season at my club yesterday and fired a rifle I had not shot in probably 3 years prior.  I had mounted a Swift 4x20x40 scope on her.  We were shooting 4x as was required (it was an "outlaw Sniper" match which we shoot just for fun at the end of the season) and I was firing at 4x then bumping the power up to 12x to see where I was hitting as I, like the moron I am, left my spotter at home.  Anyway, as I was getting up into the higher powers it was very apparent to me the old Swift was just not quite the scope I needed.  The target became blurry, definition was lost, aberration was getting heavy and on and on.  I will now go through the process of upgrading the optics on the rifle for future use.  I was looking at the SWFA list and I do like the Kahles 3x9x42 AH with the TDS "bullet drop" Reticle.  I am sure that particular scope will be much better optics compared to the Swift but what do you think?  The rifle is a Colt HBAR and I use the scope and iron sights interchangeably on the rifle.  I do not shoot her much but I do appreciate being able to see the target clearly when I want to.  My ranges realistically will be 200 or less most of the time, with the occasional long range shots when I make it to the mountains or grass lands.  I would like to have a budget of around 600 clams but I could go higher if you think it wise to do so.  I have no experience with IOR but do have experience with Sworo, Meopta, Swift, Leo, Tasco, Nikon and Zeiss.

Recommendations please.

Thanks,

Mott

IOR is a good choice, as would be Kahles, or Zeiss, resolution is very good in these scopes. if you want to keep it on a budget look at the buck gold series by Millett. best luck to ya.
