I plan on buying a new rifle scope for my sako 300 win mag.  I don't have the rifle in hand, should get here in a couple of weeks, and I am still debating which model scope to put on it....swaro z6i, or zeiss victory diavari illum.  Most likely reticle selection will determine the scope.  I will probably use the rifle to shoot deer at distances of 200-400 yards.  The reticles that I am considering are the Zeiss illum 60, and Swaro illum 4a and circle dot.  Not having the benefit of shooting with any of these beforehand, am I off base with the following assumptions:  the 4a and 60 are very similar....and they seem to offer a higher level of presision accuracy, however probably would require more time to aim than the circle dot, whereas the circle dot offers faster target acquistion however slightly less precise than the 4a and 60 reticles?

Anything else I should consider when picking between these reticles?

With you intended game and the two you have listed I think either would be good. I think the Zeiss with the illuminated reticle slightly edges out the swaro because of having that feature though, IMO

SVT, the Swaro Z6i is a lit reticle scope too.

I like features of both scopes.  Based on the illumination system alone, I prefer the Swaro.  It has the best illumination system I've seen, with settings for daytime and low light saved in memory you can quickly select with a toggle switch.  It has broad, infinitely adjustable illumination adjustments set with "+" and "-" buttons.  The adjustments themselves are all encompassed in a low profile housing integral with the eyepiece.  I also prefer the amber/orange reticle illumination over the typical red color.  I think it contrasts better.  The lit reticle itself is very sharp, without stray light flare in all but the highest intensity settings.  Slickest system I've ever seen!  I have the lit circle dot in a Z6i 1.7-10X42, and it is a great reticle!  Yes, it gives up maybe a slight amount of precision vs. the smaller dots in the other reticles, but it is a very fast, and I have no problem shooting sub MOA groups with it.

Although I might have to give the Zeiss a slight optical edge, and the LotuTec coating is a nice feature, the Swaro is no slouch and the illumination system is light years better than the Zeiss system in my opinion.  The Zeiss # 60 reticle does have a "cool" factor in that the reticle bars are in the first focal plane whereas the lit dot is in the second focal plane.  It would be a tough decision, but I would give the edge to the Swaro based solely on the illumination system.  If you were choosing non-illuminated scopes, I'd probably go with the Zeiss.

Great info Rifledude.....thanks.  If the Zeiss rebates were still available, it would make it a lot easier to decide Smile
