Would like your opinions on z plex vs #4 reticle. Strictly for hunting.
I have only ever had z plex but the #4 has got me curious.

I also am Like you, for years I've only used the plex reticle, but lately I've also been buying scopes with the #4 reticle and am pleased so far.

#4 reticle is much heavier than the z-plex which makes it better in low light for me.  The z-plex that I have is very good but not as good on low light as the #4.  I am assuming that we are talking strictly Zeiss scopes here since we are using the z-plex designation for the standard duplex reticle.

Magshooter makes a good point in that a lot depends on who's duplex reticle and which #4.  Some duplex reticles have outer posts just as bold as a typical #4, whereas other duplexes are rather thin.  In general, I like the #4 a little better than duplexes because the outer posts at 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00 are thick for low light visibility, while the upper part of the reticle is less obscured than a duplex.  The Zeiss Z-Plex is a very good duplex, though; one of my favorites.
