Give Swift a try, I have had one for around 10yrs that has been on everything from a 12ga Shotgun for slug hunting to a Ruger 10/22. it has always held zero and has been a prett decent scope for the $130 or so I paid for it. My only complaint is its worthless in low light hunting condition's, good range scope.

This may be a bit over your budget but I have to recommend it. At $199 it is a crazy good buy and should be head and shoulders above what you are looking at. I had to order one myself when I saw this price, and I don't even need a scope, just couldn't pass it up. Oh almost forgot, welcome to the OT. There are many VERY knowledgeable members here. I'm sure someone like koshkin will chime in and recommend just what you need, but this was the best thing I could think of. If there are any left.

Take a good look at the Sightron SI. It's around 109.00-129.00 and for the money has very good glass.

Check out the Swift premier, and reliant lines these are pretty good scopes. The premier is the better of the two. The Bushnell Legend is a step up from the Banner which at the price isn't too bad, the Legend should be affordable at your noted price point. The Sightron S1 is a good buy as well. and as Trigger has suggested you could splurge just a bit and get the Nikon.

If he's going to do some distance target shooting as well this would be a good buy

Welcome to OT

Burris Fulfield II---About $200, and a great buy for the money.  You might be able to get a free added "goody" such as binoculars or spotting scope as part of their promotional package for this scope.

FOR I29.95 YOU CAN BUY A BUSHNELL LEDGEND IN 2-7  AND BE READY FOR ALMOST ANY SHOOTING SITUATION. ALSO THE BUSHNELL LEDGEND IS FULLY MULTICOATED WITH 92% CUMLATIVE LIGHT. I HAVE ONE AND IT IS A OVERLOOKED SCOPE BUT ONE OF GREAT VALUE AND ONE YOU SHOULD TRY TO TAKE A PEEP THROUGH

In that price range I would definitely go with the Weaver V9 ( $149). If you went to $200 I would have to agree on the Nikon Team Primos.

I researched these scopes and am leaning toward the Nikon Team Primo. Does anyone know if the BDC (that is the feild view with the little circles under the cross hairs showing where to aim at different distances) is accurate or do you have to sight in every little circle?
Thanks
Kelly

The circles are basically sighted in by adjusting the magnification. They may not be dead-nuts accurate for 100 yard increments. You may find that you use the top of a circle or bottom of a circle instead of the middle, depending on the caliber you are shooting. The scope comes with pretty good directions on how to use it. I do know after buying my first bullet drop compensating reticle scope (Rapid-Z800) I may never own anything else. My long range shooting has improved ten fold. Also if you order from SWFA I believe you will get a free lens pen, and of course excellent service.
