Rifle is a Savage 25 Lightweight Varminter, weighs 8.25 lbs.  It is currently wearing an early model Vortex Diamondback 4-12X40.  For whatever reason, I'm not overly fond of this scope.  This was primarily my son's gun, but he recently gave his share to me (we bought it together).  He liked the Vortex and since it was mostly going to be him shooting it... that's what we mounted.

This will be a dual purpose set up.  Plinking and small game hunting.  I love to hunt Squirrels in the same manner as whitetails..... treestands, sitting on the ground, spot and stalk.  My quess would be that most shots will be less than 150 yds.

my cap is @$400.00.  I prefer simple reticles and looking for lower bottom end than 4x.  These are what I am considering, but I am interested in other views/ideas.

Meopta 3-9x40 MeoPro Rimfire Scope

Nikon 3-12x42 M-223 Riflescope        the 17 Hornet has nearly the same ballistics as a 223

Weaver 3-12x42 Grand Slam Rifle Scope

SWFA SS 2.5-10x32 Ultralight
take em!
