I am in the process of upgrading the scope on my Winchester model 94 30-30. My original scopes mounted on Weaver bases and rings was a Weaver 2.5x compact fixed power. This was a great scope for the rifle and I made a few great "hunting shots" and kills with this combo. Falling prey to the more is better syndrome I replaced the fixed power with a variable power Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5 variable. Big mistake; the front sight and muzzle is visable on the lower range which bothers my concentration when sighting. Returning to the KISS rule I am changing to a fixed power Leopold FX 4x33. My question is...should I just stick with the original Weaver mounts that have been mounted with blue Loc-Tite and trouble free for 11 years; and match with a proper set of Weaver rings for the new Leopold? Or should I start from scratch and remove everything and set up the new Leopold with matching Leopold mounts and rings?   I would appreciate your input on this scope and mounting situation!   Semper Fi, Trad

back out the screws and heat them up a little (a propane torch). and then soak in a chemical degreaser or solvent. the only reason you saw the muzzle is because at the lower magnifications the feild of vew increased. get a scope with a 2.5x minimum before you throw out the variables. for the price of that leo fx-II you could get a much better scope. when you reach the vx-III or fx-III it starts to make up for the price. I would recomend cleaning up the old mount and getting a burris fullfield 2 or something from the Sightron S2 series.
