Thinking about replacing Banner 3.5-10x36 with Trophy 3-9x40.  Not happy with the banner and the A/O and would like a silver scope to match the stainless barrel.  Rifle is used for groundhogs and shots are under 200yds.  Would like to keep it under $150.  Is the optic quality of the trophy better than the banner or does anyone have any other scope suggestions.  Thanks.

I have a BSA PLATINUM 1/8 MOA that normally sits on my .17HMR  but due to a poor squirrel season here and my old JACK RUSSELL "ELMER FUDD" getting murdered by a timber rattlesnake memorial day 09, it has been on a .308 project as a temporary for @ seven months.   The BSA is a 8x32-44AO and is not very clear at all @ 22 POWER  or so at all.  It is a great big scope though. Mine works great for head shooting squirrels at 50 to 100 yds in 30-40 feet tall hard woods. I have access to a 400acre hay field surrounded by Talledega National Forrest hardwoods and used to love to take a hay bale around that field with my quad, turning Fudd loose on the tree line and make distance shots with my Savage 93 GV.17HMR.  Went to Illinois from Bama the weekend after Fudd died and picked me up another tri-color Jack and although the squirrels and co-operated this year, Jack and Mr. Savage topped with the BSA will be ready next year.  Prolly need to erradicated some of hem Timber Rattlers this April when they come off the bed. Figure they are hard on Terriers and squirrels. Dont know. Just a little prejudiced after a near 4000.00 Vet bill trying to save Elmer Fudd.

Sorry for all them typos and getting off subject from the original post. My therapist says its good to write or talk about that dog every chance I get. I am suffering PTSD from it. Seriously.  And that .17HMR was his gun. Completely apologetic @ bringing it out here. That BSA in my opinion is a good scope for shots on very small targets out near where you say your GHog hunting. At the low of 8 power setting it works well in close range too if manual adjust parallax is not a big deal to you.

I've been looking for a scope for a .17 stainless.  I friend suggested to me to abandon the silver scope for two reasons, he thinks they are only good on a stainless gun and they often cost a bit more.  I guess true, you would move a black matt scope to any gun... but silver.. maybe not.

I was considering the Vortex Diamondback, Bushnell legend or Nikon Bucks... some of those will be a bit over your 150.00 but if you read Koshkins reviews of Inexspensive scopes, the quality jump is significant even going from 150.00 to 200.00....  just my 2 cents.
