The U.S.
I was told by Zeiss customer service, two different people, that model of scope is not covered. That being, an older conquest 4.5-14x40 and, a conquest the lowest end model they make.

Anyway, I already sent it in and prepaid for repairs. I will be getting it back in the first week of February. I understand Zeiss is backed up on repairs therefore I am fine with a bit of an wait, I like the scope.

Backup?

My 2010 4.5-14 x 44 with 4A was ordered from SWFA and has a lifetime warranty. Regardless, I would pay what you did to have it made right. It is a fine instrument.

I'm not sure why you chimed in as a seller.  You should be helping a guy with a

warranty issue.  Not the manufacturer.

That don't sound to me like a factory lifetime warranty? I hope I dont have fogging issues with my 4.5x14x44 conquest. Make me wish I would of bought a Vortex. I lost the caps on my SPARC it was totally my fault I called them told them what the deal was an offered to pay for them. The Vortex folks were insisted about me paying for these caps. When I got the package I found Vortex sent me caps for my SPARC an my Strikefire. When they pulled me up to find out if I registered the SPARC she onky mentioned the strikefire. Vortex has awsome customer service. Any of my next optics will be Vortex.

JG you mention Meopta optics can you give me a idea on how this brand is? What optics would you compare the Meopta to? I've owned Leupold, Ziess, Burris, IOR an Vortex. Today I bought the new SWFA SS 1X4 scope I plan mounting on my 18" SPR AR-15 it has a Wilson Combat barrel, LOKIE billet matched lower/upper, T
CMC 3lb trigger that on a trigger gage its set at just under 2lbs the BCG is rainier arms match nickel boron an a H3 buffer. I have my Ziess conquest mounted on it now it will split hairs at 300 yards with my hand loaded 77 grain match HPs. I've considered the Meopta line of optics buy I've never seen any reviews on them. So if you can share I'd like to know.

Most retailers, SWFA included...do not have the facility to repair optics. Warranties are managed by the manufacturer. The retailer had no pull with how they are conducted.

Noted above two other mods instructed to follow up with Zeiss. I was not apart of the call, I'm not sure what was shared with the OP and what wasn't.

I suppose the "limited" in lifetime apples to the particular scope I have, I guess. I wasn't going to argue with the poor customer service people over an non issue.

I could use some suggestions on an backup.

In the mean time I need a back up any suggestions?

I suggest you write an e-mail to Zeiss customer service and point them to this thread.

Unless, there is evidence of obviosu abuse on the scope, the repair should be handles by the  warranty.

I just sent an old cheap 4x20 Compact scope to Burris for the same reason: it fogged up.  Mind you, this was a $150 scope when new and it is about 15 years old.

They had it back to me in about 15 days with a brief note that they took it apart, cleaned everything, re-centered it and re-purged it.

Needless to say, there was no additional charges of any sort.

That is not right.

I would give them hell.

Based on the same magnification and objective size specifically there is Leupold.

  • Matte
  • Boone & Crockett
  • 30mm
  • Long Range
  • Side Focus
  • Xtended Twilight Lens System
  •
  • Matte
  • Varmint Hunters
  • 30mm
  • Long Range
  • Side Focus
  • Xtended Twilight Lens System
  • A variation close to that from a budgetary standpoint would be from Mueller.

  • Matte
  • APV Plex
  • 1"
  • Adjustable Objective

Well, they already took my money for the repair + shipping. I guess I have to look at it as water under the bridge a couple hundred bucks is not worth stressing over.

From what I gather, how busy they are with repairs and priority of the age and model of the scope. The customer service people are just doing what the company policy dictates. I'm not going to give any poor customer service ladies "hell" over an non issue. Plus, I don't have an hour for waiting on hold again also, I am not an email person.

Like I said, I like the scope and I am sure everything will be just fine when I get it back in February. My hunting is over for the season.

Again, I would be grateful for some suggestions on an backup to avoid any similar headaches.

    Thanks

    The vortex looks appealing.
    Anyone have experience with them?
