All right guys!  Thanks for all the input concerning the XHR.  It just doesn't make sense to go that route at a premium price.  I

I have located a Remy SPS SS in 300 WM for $589.99.
Who out there has a SPS and how is the stock on it.
Is it flexible like the cheaper Savages?

This price looks excellent to me so let me get
you opinions on the SPS stock.

Thanks in advance   Thunbs Up

Bud

The stock on my SPS Varmint and over cooked spaghetti had a lot in common.

Sps stock is very light weight, i had one on a 7mm Magnum and the recoil was hell.
Changed it for a laminated stock.

So the low end SPS is similar to the old non Accu synth.  I have seen SPS with hogues.

Great just spoiled that idea!

Alright then, I will just wait and get the Savage long range hunter in300 WM when it comes out!  MSRP ~950 but discounters are saying Mid $700.  Thats a no brainer,  Accu-trigger, accu-stock, bull barrel weight around 8.5lb.  I am ordering the SS variable scope to start with!

Just following up to my last post...I wouldn't quote me on this one but I have heard or read somewhere that recently (as in the last 2 years) Remington upgraded the SPS varmint stock to make it less flexible...will post the reference if I find it.

There's some (Scottish?) bloke on Youtube (username: wildernesseducation) who has a set of videos where he beds the action and free floats the barrel using the factory SPS varmint stock.

MidwayUSA also has instruction videos showing bedding techniques but I don't know if its on a Remy? They have a lot of instructional videos on there.

Can't get any of those...i'm not in the U.S....

Only things I can seem to get over here are the McMillan Classic stock but it doesn't take Varmint barrel contour (supposedly) and Choate Ultimate Varmint stock.

Sorry forgot your not stateside.  The McMillian seems to be the most popular  here abouts, especially the A5 style.  If I am not mistaken, just about any stock that is cut for a sportsters style barrel can be opened up for a bull barrel.  Why don't you pm bigdaddy an ask if this is true.  If true it would be much cheaper than having one made from scratch.

Had a look. Way out of my budget.

If I wanted a right handed stock for a Remington or Howa action I could get a Hogue (pillar or aluminium bedded) or a Bell and Carlson Medalist or Varmint in whatever colour I wanted!

Maybe Bell & Carlson #5024 might fit???? #5024__ Remington 700 BDL, Short Action, Left Handed Fits models with hinged floorplate, fits 700 Safari Grade, Classic and Varmint Special with modifications.

Good call Martin. I've looked that this site before and like what I've seen. Anyone purchased from Stockys before?
