I tried doing a search but no luck. I had a 3-9x40 mounted on this gun but now have a 6-18x50 bushnell that its going to wear. I set the new scope in the low rings last night and the front objective hits the barrel, just barely though. It sits flush in the rings but theres no way to turn the AO. I new i would need new rings but my question is do you think medium rings would work or would I need high ones. Keep in mind I am going to put Bultler creek flip up caps on it as well.

Thanks

what about base?  I have mounted a 50mm on my sps tactical with a 20moa base and low rings.  though mediums will be fine with 0 base mounts.

Ok, I'm back. Yes, depending on what ranges your going to be shooting I would think about adding a 20 MOA base as to not stress the mechanics of scope to much.

That would require new rings as well though. What do you plan on doing with this rig?

Basically this rifle is my "Intro to the world of long range shooting/reloading/ and gunsmithing." I have been a muzzleloader hunter up until now and have become somewhat bored at the 200 yard game, so I want to expand my skills. Nothing crazy like the 1000yard distance but up to 4-500yards would be nice. Besides just for fun target shooting this will also be a prairie dog/coyote rifle.

then you will want a 20MOA base and then low rings will work fine.

Well, even if you don't now want to take shot at 1K I'd still go ahead an set up to do it. Use EGW 20moa base an burris extreme medium rings or SS rings if in stock. Can't go wrong with either.

good suggestion SB.

I should clarify my earlier statement I have used the SS lows with a 20MOA TPS base and a nikon 3x9x50 scope with flip ups and had no issues with clearance.  its a 1" tube 30mm may be different.  The best idea is to call like SB said and talk to CFII or Brady or any SWFA employee as they have great knowledge and can tell you exactly the best setup.

thanks for all the help. I think that I am just going to go with medium rings for now. I don't wanna buy a new base as well right now. This scope is also just temporary until I save up for a one with a 30mm tube and of higher quility. When i do that i will take your suggestions of the 20moa base

SPS Varmint, Bushnell 6-24x50, TPS Super Low Rings with a 0deg base. I still have room though your scope is shaped differently.

BobC, how much clearance do you have over the barrel? I just ordered a TPS 0 MOA base and super low rings which should be fine for my SS, but I'm wondering if it will be too low if I ever decide to mount a 50mm objective.

Unfortunately there is no topic "Rifle scopes and Rings and Bases"...
Rifle Scopes

Rings and  Bases

This thread is much more concerned with Rings and Bases than Rifle Scopes. so I moved it...

In a day or two, I will eliminate the reference in Rifle Scopes...

That is why we have different topic headings.  To kind of keep "like" things together for later reference.  Don't get mad because you got moved... no harm done.  I'm just doing what I get paid to do (an EXHORBITANT amount, I might add, wealth beyond your wildest dreams of avarice).
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

There are some who do not fear death... for they are more afraid of not really living
