I've been searching and can't find a thing on them.  I do know there's ALOT of outdoor products with the Remington name and logo on it made in you know where.

Hello cowski,
I bought a used Remington 700 once with one of those 3-9x40 scopes- with a big R on a turret cap and white lettering around the bell rim- 3-9x42.
Except for the "R", it looks exactly like this Barska Huntmaster at SWFA-

http://swfa.com/Barska-3-9x40-Huntmaster-Rifle-Scope-P5754.aspx

I consider it overpriced at $37.95, by about $37.95
It does have a nice dark reticle...

Oh, forgot to mention- tried sighting it in with very mild .30-06 handloads (165gr ~ 2550fps) and after boresighting (should have been close) had to chase it all over the target at 25 yds. and never got it right- just started shooting the rifle at cowpatties and the like for the heck of it and actually hit a milkjug at about 50', but just barely. It was hilarious- never hit the same place twice. Shot at a target at 250 yds and was at 10 o'clock- 5' first shot and 3 o'clock- 4' the next. LOL
What's worse, it has -at best- 2 1/2 " eye relief at 9X and really, it's less than that.  The eye relief might be officially more than that, but had the eyepiece screwed out a ways to fit my eyes.
Even with mild loads, it tried to give my 14 yr. old a new eyebrow.
I'd warned him, but I probably didn't listen to my  Dad at 14, either.

You might still consider the rifle, just plan on getting a better scope. It amazes me that a company would risk putting such a bad scope on a rifle because some people are bound to blame the rifle overall. Even the lowliest Remington deserves a somewhat decent scope. Then again, there are people like my father-in-law who pay $800-1000 for a nice Ruger, then throw a Tasco on it, with which you can't even pick out .30 cal holes on a target 60 yards away. I can see where people find it appealing to pick up a hunting package for $400.

jonoMT is correct. The Remington 700 under that scope was a keeper.
He's also correct that Remington, has made some strange marketing decisions.
FWIW, I've seen Howas with Nikko Sterlings and Savage rifles w/ a God- knows what scope attached and several other brands, as well.
Most brands run in that race to the bottom of the pile in one form or another.

There can't be any sort of QC on a scope that retails for $40 and this one was probably just a lemon. Wal- Mart website lists the scope for $50, so SWFA is the low- price leader.

By the way, that rifle really surprised me as it had a crisp 4 1/2 lb. trigger that was perfect with no creep or overtravel.
Glad to see Remington has employees that know what they are doing in spite of their lawyers.
