I am currently looking for a scope for my new Remington R-15 in .223.  I have been reading though the Optics Talk Forum and would like to know your thoughts on the new Nikon Coyote Special Scopes.  I currently have Zeiss Conquest on a couple of rifles and Leupold's VX-III's on the others. These have some great glass so I'm  inclined to stay with what I know. But I like the camo/BDC idea that Nikon has going with on this new scope but it's got to be clear and usable.

I will be using this mostly for coyote hunting out in the wide spaces of the Eastern Washington shots are usually 200 yards but sometimes they sneak in behind you and it gets personal...  So I was thinking something in the 4-14 or even a 3.5 to 10.. For a price something in the 300-550 range

The Coyote Special Scopes look neat but will probably not have the glass of the VX-III or Conquest.  The Nikon Monarch in 2.5 - 10 x 50 would work in the scenarios you described and are in the price range.

The Nikon Coyote are probably in the Buckmaster range glass wise, not bad. I don't know for sure though. I would call SWFA and ask one of their sales, or CS reps to help you in that regard. They aren't going to be near the 4200, Conquest and VXIII. They should however be a serviceable scope, that looks good on that rifle.

Under the Sample list there is a Weaver 4-16 Classic V16 any thoughts on that or the Baush & Lomb 4-16? or are they in the same ball park as the Nikon?

Kahles American Hunter is the best one of the bunch.  I have one of those and it is a very nice scope.

That would be my choice. Good low light reticle, low power for fast target Acquisition or dial it up to 10X for longer day shots.  The 4200 has good glass too.
