Hey Guys,
I am new to the forum.....just made my first scope purchase from SWFA and couldn't be happier.

I purchased a Remington VS earlier this year and ran into a problem this past weekend. Since I purchased the gun I have been doing a lot of bench shooting so I've only put 1 bullet in it at a time. However, I went on a coyote hunt with this gun on Friday and noticed when I put 1 shell in the magazine it "clicks". The second shell does not "click" down into the magazine so I have to hold it down and then I chambered by 3rd shell.

Well when I shot this coyote , I of course threw the shell out and tried to chamber another.....problem is the other 2 bullets "spring" up from the magazine and won't let me chamber another because they both are in the way because they don't stay down in the mag.

I hope that made sence......does anybody have any ideas ? I have hunted all my life and have owned several Remington guns and never had a problem with any of them.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would certainly take it in, or contact Remington about it. The lip of the magazine that is supposed to hold that cartridge in there must be defective in some way. Apperently just the left side where the 2nd cartridge sits?

When you load the second one it dose it sit inline with the first or is it over to the side( staggered)?

Yeah, I was thinking the lip of the mag is wrong some how.....but this gun was new, still in the box ....so it's got me baffled.

The second shell sits staggered, it just doesn't "click" down in the magazine like the first shell.

ReelTree,
i wish i could put my hands on it but thats one of those things that it might be a few things that could cause it. I'll look tonight at the shop on one and see if I can find out a few things to tell you to look at. Maybe we can solve it for you.

It's kind of hard to tell without seeing it, but people in gun factories make mistakes too. If it was brand new in box, I'd have it looked at. If I bought a brand new gun that had issues like that, I wouldn't live with it, or spend money to fix it myself.

Don't feel bad, I'm sure he had it coming. I believe the site's host was playing with the word filter.

By the way, welcome to the Optics Talk.

Realtree,

No problems on the name being changed, no worries!!

I had the best of intentions on looking last night and trying to fix the problem you are having or at least try to find a way for you to fix it. I got tied up working on a Enfield 303 for 4 hours with the owner standing over my shoulder and took way longer than it should. I’ll make sure I look at it tonight have something for you in the morning.

Sounds good man, I appreciate it greatly. I'll be sure and check here tomorrow.

I tried calling Remington yesterday but just sat on hold......if anyone has a contact there or an extension ......please pass it along. I'd like to see if there are any known issues.

You might try this site and see if they have a listing for a real person contact

I have a CDL .243 that I have to be careful not to load the shells to far forward. Insert the shells and make sure they are located at the back of the box. This helped. It is a little tricker to load with the scope over the box mag. than some other rifles. It is easer to load a detachable mag. then you can slap the back to move th shells to the back.  Let me know if this helps with your situation. Welcome to the OT.
