I have a Remington Model 700 in a .270 and have decided to purchase a Bushnell 4200 in a 3x9x40 to go on top. Since this is my first time doin this, I really need some help.

1) my rifle already has iron sights on it. How will this effect the rings and bases I need?

2) If someone has already done it, any suggestions on a base/rings configuration that would work well on a budget?

3) If you have any other suggestions that might help out a first timmer, I'm all ears

Thanks

Okay, after doing a little more research, I think I've decided to go with Warne rings and 2-piece base.

Is this a good setup? Would a 1-piece rail base work better?

One more thing. Does anyone know the outside diameter of a bushnell 4200 3x9x40 objective bell? I just want to make sure the low rings will work on my rifle.

Welcome to OT stealthftr!

Yes, that is a very good setup.  Warne rings are high quality, and you'll be very pleased with them!  A 1 piece base is "theoretically" a stronger setup, but the 2-piece is plenty strong and some people don't like having the base protrode over the ejection port any from a looks standpoint.  It's really a personal preference thing.

I believe the o.d. of a 4200 3-9X40 objective bell is 46mm (1.811").  I'm pretty sure you'd need to go with their "medium" rings for the scope bell to clear the barrel, but I'd call Warne to confirm.
