    Posted: July/04/2007 at 10:32

Does any-one know if Remington make "custom" rifles? I have looked at their brochure and see the rifle I want in bits and pieces. One piece is on this rifle and the other on that one!! What I am looking for is the Remington 700 Lefthand  Varminter with a 26 inch barrel in a 243 cal, with the C&B stock. They seem to have the barrel and cal in the right hand VLS. They then have a Lefthand VFS which is the 22"inch fluted barrel, C&B stock, but does not come in 243 cal. So if I can have them put the barrel and the stock on to a left hand action ????

I have written to Remington, and my dealer is finding out from the local agents.

I am just wondering if anybody has the answer and maybe a quicker response time then either above?

Thanks for the feedback. Somehow I missed all that on their website. I will have a look.

Thanks for the responses. The 40-XB option will be very nice, but expensive and difficult to execute from South Africa. We struggle just to get a "special order" like a Left hand varminter.

I have searched the web for other left hand options in a 243 cal and it just seems unobtainable. The local Remington dealer has not yet responded to being able to get a left hand 243.

I e-mailed Remington for the same, can they do 243 VSF in left hand. I received a real half-assed reply: Please contact our Custom Dept at tel XXXXXX. for further assistance in this regard.  Damm, I thought that was customer service's job to get the answer and inform me!

Anyway, It will appear as though I may have to go for the 308 cal option. Remington only has left hand VSF in 223, 22-250 and 308.

Features a M700 Stainless Steel barreled action with a 24 inch R5 Mil-Spec barrel, the same type rifling used in the M-24 sniper rifles. Varmint barrel with 11.25 inch twist rate with five lands and grooves and eleven degree target crown. Stock has aluminum bedding in block in standard VS configuration.

The illustration to the right is an example of a target fired from a customers unmodified rifle. He used Sierra 175 MK bullets, Lake City Brass (also used Fed GM brass), Match primers and Varget powder (a full grain under max). The bullets were seating to standard magazine length at approximately 2.855 inches over all length. Case prep was nominal. Uniform primer pockets and trim to length. As illustrated, the rifle can turn out amazing accuracy with very little effort handloading. Factory match ammo has shown groups in the .3 to .6 range depending on ammo. Results may vary but this target illustrated a typical group with this individual rifle and this one handload. Take note that the cold bore shot is the highest in the group and is north of center by an amazing 1/8 inch!
