Some of you guys may have noticed the bigger bolt knob on that 700 ADL 308 in the other thread.  G. A. Precision Rifles installed it for me.  It's off their 'Crusader' rifle and the workmanship was superb.  I've used that 308 for different 'experiments' including mercury recoil reducers.  I like this bolt because it does give more leverage and more to grab onto in a hurry.  I'm used to 'palming' 700 bolts but with this one 'fisting' seems to work better.  I have know idea how it would work with a scope although their 'Crusader' is scoped.

Here's a couple pictures of it next to a stock short action 700:

I have a Badger bolt knob on my Remmy .308, it looks even longer than yours.  It is the only bolt gun I own, but I would not own another without having one installed.  It made all the difference in the world for speed and grabbing the bolt consistently every time.

Yeah I've seen the Badger Tactical knob and it is longer.  I think it's smooth and has no serrations.  The 'Crusader' bolt length was a good (hunting) compromise for me between the stock knob and the Badger.  But no doubt you can't miss the Badger knob if you're really hurrying.

My first game with the Crusader knob, a small 60# Wild Hog:
