...........For varmit hunting and longer range target shooting, certainly nothing wrong with the .308 or the Remy SPS varmit.

For deer hunting?.... However, for lugging and carrying around, it is not the ideal deer rifle with an OAL of 46.5" @ 8 1/2 lbs. + the additional scope and ring weight you will choose. If you`re hunting from just a stand without alot hiking, carrying, etc., that will certainly help.

In most cases, a varmit rifle is not the most ideal deer rifle and a deer rifle is not the most ideal varmit rifle............You must compromise.

I have a friend who bought a Remy Sendero for its flat out good looks, which it sure has. He loved that rifle, UNTIL his first goat hunt and after that a mountaineous terrain elk hunt...........Laugh

He wishes he had bought another rifle..........Roll%20on%20Floor%20Laughing

Be careful. Don`t let your emotions get in the way of common sense, especially in dealing with possible unforeseen terrain issues! Wink

Mel over at Sniper Central did a good review of the rifle in question.
(It's even got a SS on it.) Wink

I'd probably go with the SPS Tactical, if it were me, friend. Shorter barrel and I like the Hogue stock.
The factory Remington stock on the Varmint looks like crap.

Big Squeeze is on the money. I tried the above and it does not work. A varmint rifle is to heavy and unwieldy to carry around and use whislt hiking around.

Big Papa....................Another rifle you should carefully look at is the Howa Ranchland compact from Legacy Sports which is available in the .308;;;;; aka Weatherby Vanguard.

These rifles are lighter for easier carrying, handier, barrels are 20" free floating, they have Hogue stocks and imo, are an excellent accurate compromise for varmits and deer hunting as well.

For its price, I can`t think of a better rifle for both purposes!
