Plenty of info on date codes on the barrel.  I'm looking to find a resource to tell me how a gun was originally sent out from remington.   I have a gun that the guy is claiming is a custom shop gun but I have no way to confirm.  Phone calls have been a waste of time trying to get anyone on phone.

Anyone know how to confirm that info?

The custom shop isn’t in Ilion now, it’s in Sturgis. I have a Model 7MS that came from the Custom Shop in Ilion. I don’t remember anything special about the packaging. My buddy was the Remington rep at the time and I ordered it at the Shot Show when it was introduced.

Another friend got me a tour of the Custom Shop and I met the gentleman that did the checkering. My rifle was a model that was only offered through the shop as are many today.

At the time Model 7’s were produced with 18” barrels, the 7MS came with a 20” barrel and a Mannlicher stock and real nice checkering.

The barrel markings are "Remington Custom Shop, Ilion, NY" along the top and ".223 REM" hand-stamped on the left side rear. Both sides have the usual proof marks just forward of the recoil lug.

My Custom Shop .458 WinMag (now converted to .458 Lott... custom shop would not perform the conversion) is signed/initialed and dated by the gunsmiths who worked on it inside the original stock.  I got them on the phone, spoke with a young lady whose name I do not remember, now, but she got me all the info on the build up of the rifle.  It took almost 2 years to complete the build.  She said that is normal... sometimes they just get laid aside and sit for a while until completion is needed.
I just kept calling until I finally got an answer... several calls a day for several weeks before I got in touch.

I have a couple of Custom KS Mountain Rifles. There are some numbers and initials that don't appear on any of the other 700's and M7's I have.
When the Ilion shop was open they had a manager, Tim McCormick I believe, and he was always easy to get in contact with. He was also very friendy.

with the Remington changes getting anyone on the phone is impossible.  I'll try those numbers listed on the other forum.
