Is there a place where I can buy a remington model 700 .223 barrel. I want one that is made for less kick than the stock bole barrel. It is for my dad for fathers day, because he wants to be able to see the squirel, prarie dog ect... when he shoots. Thnx

Mike Rock barrels are supposed to be great as well, along with ones silver mentioned.

If I were to go to the trouble of re-barreling my rifle, I would definitely go with a custom tube.

Your milage may vary, of course.

Nice father days present. What you want is a heavy barrel. A basic barrel will run about 200 to 250 and about 200 for installation, might think about just trading the gun in.

It has the heavy barrel on it right know. I was wondering if there was a heavy barrel with porting that will make it so it doesn't kick at all.

in a 9 lb. gun a .223 has about 4 ft/lbs of recoil (as i recall). the sum of the ejecta mass and the bullet is approx. 75 gr with about 1/3 of that being gases. thus if a muzzle break were 100% effective it would reduce the recoil about 1.3 ft/lbs. Hardly worth the expense. This was why it was chosen by the military-no recoil- so it could be used by a large variation of shooters. (I did hear a story that it was chosen to elminate the prarie dogs in the B-52 air bases in South Dak. but haven't been able to verify it yet).

there are a large number of brakes out there, JP probably the best. (works the best because the larger additional wt. also reduces recoil).
