As promised, a blow by blow bore me to death report! My fingerprints have finally been cleared by our FCA and they are satified I had not commited some terrible crime in my dark past. The application has now been moved on to "The Final Approval Committee". So I live in mortal fear and trepidation as my future rights to own a gun is being considered by some ar$h0l3s.
Meanwhile my rifle has been cleared by the police, by our Buro of Standards (thats right  a country that cannot generate electricity or organise a screw in whorehouse, do not trust that Americans can build a gun that will not blow up). So it first had to go to have the headspace and headpressure checked and get the very important RSA stamp.
The rifle has now been shipped to my friendly gundealer in Cape Town. So about by next week I can drool over it, but may not remove it from the gunshop.
But hey, things are progressing!!!

What an unbelievable amount of hassle you have to go through just to buy a rifle, 8shots!  I know you'll be very relieved when it's finally in your hands!

Fellow Americans, this is the kind of utopia the antis in our country strive for us to emulate!

Do they actually stamp the barrel with a proofmark of some sort?

Well, look on the bright side...While at  Cape Town, head up to Table Top Mt. and grab some chow...Then head to the beach and enjoy the view..  or maybe head out to Stellenbosch and grab a wine tour ..or enjoy a lekker brai on the shore....( boy-it's been a long time since I've said that )

Ronk, yes they stamp the barrel with a proof mark. During the earlier years things were a lot more lax and many gun importers would just import the gun and sell it without doing the proof. One of the officials at the Buro of Standards now recently decided to make a name for himself and attended a shooting competition and started inspecting rifles for the proof stamp. Most South African's do not even know that this is required. Well, there was a tense stand-off and eventually the official left, never to be seen again.
Yeah, Martin, there is allways sunny skies, braaivleis and a Chevrolet!

Good for them!  I love a happy ending where the shooters hold the high ground and the parasitic bureaucrat disappears in a puff of acrid smoke! I only hope it starts happening more frequently in this country!
