That looks like an old M7 AS with the Arylon stock. I have an old M700 AS. The stock is a bit heavy for a synthetic but it is very durable. It also does not make a lot of noise like some IM stocks can.
That one is a keeper. |

Tahqua,it's definitely a stiff stock for an injection molded one. Best IM stock I've seen. Sounds like it's what you say it might be.
I also just found out that Remingtons year code for 1983 when the Model 7 was introduced is D. The bbl on this rifle where it is stamped is marked DN.

Got a reply from a guy who has a rifle like my friends M7 only in 7mm-08. Told me his was a special run. Makes sense.
Wonder if this will up the value much,if any, over what he paid for it($500)? Edited by 300S&W - March/09/2009 at 07:35 |

I just got off the phone with Remington. Remington's records on this rifle's s/n shows it registered with an 18.5" bbl. If this would have been a special run rifle it would have been so recorded. He couldn't understand why someone would have replaced the bbl on it with another Remington bbl even if they could have gotten one as they don't sell bbls separately. He also told me that Remington at one time owned a large tract of land on the Eastern Shore of Md(where this rifle was bought)where corporate people would go to hunt. Considering that from the factory appearence of this rifle we came to the conclusion that it's very possible that someone from Remington had the factory install the longer bbl before this rifle ever left the factory just to take on a hunt and then offed it down there. I'm gonna see if my friend can contact the guy he bought it from. Also the Remington rep wanted to know if the rifle was for sale. LOL

Another possibility is take someone had it rebarreled with a Remington take-off barrel as I'm sure you already know there are tons of them around that have never been fired.

I guess that's possible. Unless they could do it themselves or had friend who could it would almost seem a waste of money just for a bit longer bbl in the same chambering. But as I told pyro,I'm willing to pay for something I want. But,as I told the rep, everything matches up so good. Bbl finish to action finish and bbl'd action to stock couldn't be better. Probably never know for certain. NICE rifle whatever though.

i just question the reps motives, seems like he may have had a hidden agenda, like he knew something extra and wouldnt tell you. i guess i would buy it if you really like it.

22" 308 takeoff tubes are less than $50 a pop and screw upon a 7 just as easily as a 700.
Much to do about nothing. Toss the stock, they are a 40 ounce boat anchor,in a best case scenario.
Though punching the bridge for the 4th fastener,is always a good call, unless incorporating a DD/XP-100 1pc bridge and then that becomes largely moot in regards to integrity.................

Tough to argue throwing those extra ounces aboard a svelte offering, despite it already being crippled by it's issued HEAVY stock. LW's are 2 ounces on the nose and a 6x42 with it's 60MOA ele available on tap only adds about 13 ounces to the fray.
My 22" 7SHAMU 7 is 7.25lbs on the nose all up,in a McMillan MR handle with 1" Decelerator and even with fullhouse 120TSX's,the kids can shoot it.
Pretty good package....................

I have no complaints with the weight compared to other bolt rifles I currently have.
The mounts I would not switch, regardless. The stock is a different matter. |

For the money,a guy can source a 700ADL and dump it into a Ti takeoff stock and be lighter than the 7,better handling and for less loot. Tough to trump them virtues.
Built Sister a #1 contoured 22" 25-284 in a Ti with the ubiquitous 6x42/LW melding and it smokes 7's(which I've a bunch of). Told her she could paint is as per whim and she took it to heart.
Kids........................(grin)
