Hi all - new to the forum here.  I just bought a Remington 700 5R (stainless 24" barrel) in .308 and would like to mount a new Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 (1 inch tube) Rapid-Z 1000 on the rifle.  I have received confliciting advice on which base (20 MOA vs. 0 MOA base) and rings (med vs. high) I should put on the rifle to ensure a proper setup.  My goal is to work up to 1000 yards so I want to make sure I don't make a mistake now that I will have to fix later. I would like to keep them rings stainless if possible but that is NOT a hard requirement.  I am thinking about Leupold rings and base unless there is a reason not to go Leupold.  Any suggestions as to which rings and which base would be a good setup are welcome.  Thank in advance for your feedback.

If you will be using the reticle as intended, you should definitely get a 0 moa base.

I like TPS rings and bases for quality and value.

The purpose of a 20moa base is to zero your scope with more "up" elevation travel available.  This is only necessary if you will be dialing the elevation turret for elevation adjustments.

The Z1000 is designed to make elevation adlustments with the reticle.

It will still work with the 20moa base, but your scope will be zeroed away from the center of adjustment travel, where the scope performs best optically. The 0moa base will keep you closer to center.

The outside dimensions of rifle receivers can vary somewhat,  and mount base screws sometimes are not lined up. Shims are sometimes needed.
Burris Signature rings, either the Weaver compatible "ZEE" type or twist in rotary dovetail type can compensate for the above variations resulting in the reticle being very closely centered ( equal up - down, left- right reticle adjustments) for the zero range intended for the Rapid Z reticle.
Another advantage of the Signature rings is the relatively soft plastic (probably some type of nylon) inserts will not cause ring marks on your scope and make any type of ring lapping unnecessary.
