What do you guys recommend for a hand held release.  i have a scott now that uses velcro and straps around my wrist but I am wanting something that is hand held and not strapped in.  If they aren't a good ideal let me know but if so give me some suggestions on what you use or recommend.

I use a Scott, myself.  I feel I would be very uncomfortable not having a safety when I drew my bow.  Sweat, cold, nerves, anything could make me accidently drop my pull and there I would be... no trophy.  JMO Sorry I could not help much... Good Luck.Bandito

I, too, wouldn't want a release that didn't strap to my hand.

Thats up to you. for hunting a strap is a safty feature. use leather strap and buckle so it fits the same everytime after the stretching takes place.

The leather would achieve one of the things I am look for, quiet on off ablity.  Can you change over the velcro to a leather setup on most releases?

I've re-straped releases before...just not a Scott. I'll bet it's doable though.

Another downside for leather is sweat. When I shot fingers I used a leather finger glove. It was great but here in NC during bow season leather is going to get wet and dry over and over again. It doesn't handle that too well.
The other thing that struck me about a release without a strap is, how many times I've got settled in my stand and before I knew it something that wasn't tied, buttoned or velcrowed was on the ground and I was deciding if I needed it bad enough to go back down and get it.
Don't forget, "Murphy" is on every hunt with you.

35 days to bow season, 11 days of pratice and only 5 weeks left to get those orders in so your stuff will be here in time.

I'm gettin pregame butterflies just thinkin about it.

Just an update.  I found you can get new straps for scott releases for around $15.  So i have a leather on on the way.  its a simple unscrew the head off the existing and put it on the new strap.

Ups a downs to both. Got a good buddy who gas one and it keep his hands free, he just has it attached to the loop and ready to go. I like the strap personally, just like the feel, feels like part of my body

I like the strap as I have never dropped my arm out of the stand, but have just about everything else.
