Been on the samplelist checking out mostly the nikons, whats the difference between refurbed and recond? Anyone have experience with either one? Called nikon today and asked what is the number one problem scopes go back to the "factory" the guy at the other end of the phone said adjustment lock-up, I didn't think to ask if it was zoom lock-up or reticle lock-up.   Can a bad scope be turned into a good scope and what are the odds that once a bad scope always a bad scope? What say you?

I've bought a Nikon Buckmaster that was factory refurbished off of the samplelist. I put it on my .223 and have had no problems thus far. Going on 2 years strong (knock on wood)

I bought a reconditioned Nikon ProStaff. It lasted on my Mini-14 about a year.I still think it was a good scope after 2000 rounds.I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if the price is good.

I have a Nikon Monarch X that is from the sample list. It is a fantastic bargain at the price you can get them at.

Refurbished and reconditioned are the same thing.  The number one reason for scopes being returned is that they either ran out of adjustment or are not holding zero.  Both of these issues are usually caused by the scope being mounted improperly causing the user to use up all the scope's adjustments.  A scope's zero will wander if you max out your adjustments in one direction.  This can also cause the reticle to move at an angle when making adjustments.

All the factory has to do is re-center the reticle and test the scope and it is good as new again.  When the Nikon rep. told you adjustment lock up, I bet this is what he was referring to.
