Why do I see so many refurbished Zeiss Conquest scopes on the Sample list? What is failing on these scopes? I am trying to make up my mind on what to put on my Mountain Eagle 280. I know Zeiss wrote the book on glass but I cannot put up with a scope that will fail for any reason under normal use.Under extreme conditions as in Alaska/British Colimbia I understand a failue will occur but it should not happen in the whitetail woods on a nice fall evening.Give me all input you can as I am about at a loss. For the money and I do not care how much what scope do you get the best value? Also which makers use etched glass reticles and on which models?

As for why are there so many re-furbished scopes you can not read into this that it failed therefore it has been refurbished. Scopes are used as demo models  for display in stores and at trade shows and once that happens is it really a new in the box scope - no because they get handling marks in the finish - mind you that doesn't affect the useability of the scope but is part of the cost of doing business and these are sold at reduced prices. Refurbished may mean that the finish was repaired or that it was checked over by the factory to assure that it is still in good condition and has not been dropped or otherwise abused.  That said there are some scopes that came out of the factory and were not made right went back and got fixed but that is a small portion of the refurbished.  How do you know what you are getting - you dont but if you want to take a little risk to get a little deal you might come out of the scratch and dent sale with a champion at a bargain price. If you want to remove the risk buy new.

Hello RRMan03

We have seen some failures but we are not shure yet is they are failing at a

above average rate as far as the german models are concerned they are by

far better in every way than the conquest line. The Schmidt you are looking

into is very nice I was playing with several of different models and I just bought

a 2.5-10x56, this is the model I liked the most out of thier hunting scopes.

Thier PM II line is the best but also the most expensive. With the S&B Varmint

you have a .28 movement and a very fine reticle this scope will not be the best

choice for the poorest light, but will be the best value for target and day work.

The PM II is the best choice all around.
