So I went to the range recently to sight in a rifle.  Initially it was shooting to the right about 4 inches at 100 yards.  So I dialed in that change in on the Burris Fullfield II 3x9 and tapped the scope a bit as I was taught to do.  The next shot there was no change of point of impact, which surprised me.  This scope has tracked well in the past.  The shot after that the point of impact was indeed left but further than I'd dialed in if each click is 1/4 inch.  Subsequent adjustments had similar problems.   I eventually got the rig dialed in but it took  considerably more ammo than it should have to do so.

My question is, what's up?  A friend of  mine says the scope probably needs to be refurbished or replaced as springs wear out and the lubricant's dry out over time.  Your thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

A tip that has recently come to light is to actually click past your intended amount and then return to where you want it.  If you want 10 clicks right,go (rather quickly) 20 right and back 10 left. Seems to work well for me and I use to do the "tap on the turret" routine. Maybe try it and let us know how it goes?

Personally if I had a scope that had problems like that it would get replaced.  What a pain going through all that crap all the time.

Going past the amount and coming back is a good idea.  I've always tapped the turret a bit or dropped the butt of the rifle on the ground a bit to shake it.  Thanks for the idea 300!

I believe John Barsness learned that trick from someone and passed it along in one of his mag articles.  Your welcome though.

I'm starting to lean that way, ST.  The question is which scope to buy....

The rifle is a .270 and I hunt use it to hunt in whitetails in thick brush and antelope on the high plains, so shots can range from 50 feet to 500 yards.   I like the ballistic reticles for the antelope hunting.  Any thoughts? Leupold's B&C "bow ties" and Zeiss Rapid Z's seem a bit cluttered to me, and Swaro's are expensive as heck.  The DOA from Bushnell would work, but the 6500's are big and heavy and this is a stalker weight rifle.  I wish Bushnell put the DOA reticle in the 4200's!
