How do these work and are all them battery dependant.  I am wondering if the better ones are capable of 200 yard rifle shooting.

I like the Aimpoint Micro, small Trijicon, Zeiss version and Leupold versions.

keep in mind the size of the dot, as some of the red dots have 6.5MOA size dots. If you're engaging human size targets, ie crazy ivans, the military uses an aimpoint otherwise known as the m68, big version of the micro, and recommends no more than 500 meters (Human size target)for the M4 which is supposed to be a 3 MOA weapon.

All use batteries, while the Zeiss has a solar cell day/ battery low light/no light set up.

200Y shooting is a breeze with any of the mentioned red dots but that depends on what kind of shooting and how big the target and or how tight your groups...again what type of shooting you'll be doing. For tactical apps, they are indispensible.

You might consider buying a 1-5x with illumination?

I am playing around with optics for a Ruger No.1 in 303 Brit.  The rifle will be a plinker and target rifle shooting mostly mid to lo power cast bullets.  No hunting as artificial hips have robbed me of such activities.

The No.1 has the scope mounts quite far forward so the non-issue of eye relief with these sights interests me.  Also all scopes interfere with the natural hand carry position and this is important to me.

I would prefer a peep sight but again the action requires mounting them quite far forward.

So I am looking for an optical peep sight would be accurate.   Range would be 200 meters max but really 100 or less.
