I came across a Redfield Frontier model 4X rifle scope. it looks old and has some ring wear but other than that it is nice and clear and looks like a good scope. I am finding a lot of Redfield Widefields when I am searching online but can't find much information on this 'Frontier' Model.

Has anyone here had one before? I am thinking from the little info I have found so far that it is a pre-eighty's model.

The Redfield Frontier is from the late sixties or early seventies.  I can't lay my hands on my copy of OLD RIFLE SCOPES just now...it would tell me when they were made.

I remember them vaguely as some kind of secondary model that Redfield made.  They may have been a little lighter in weight or something.  They would have been around during the days when Redfield was just beginning to come out with the Widefield stuff.  Don Burris was the designer of the widefield concept, and also the man who figured out that putting the reticle in the second focal plane would not cause the reticle to 'grow' when you increased the power on a variable scope---which was a real issue back in the Early Days of Variable Scopes.

Don Burris went on to start up Burris scopes. He had worked for Redfield since the fifties.

It's probably a decent scope, but easily forty years old.  They may have continued to make them into the mid-seventies, I can't remember precisely now.

Perfect! I think I am getting it then. It literally still has the lifetime warranty sticker on it.
