I had a chance to look through one of these yesterday. As far as just handling it goes, I liked the scope. If they're moderately durable and track decently, they should be a pretty good low-price choice. The glass was alright, I liked the knurled power ring (which was metal, not plastic) and under the turret caps are knobs you can turn without a coin.

I keep reading and hearing that the quality of the Redfield is equal to a VX-I. It doesn't seem like that could be true, given the price difference and the fact that they're made by the same outfit.
Has anybody here done a side-by-side comparison?

I just bought one yesterday and figured I would take the chance.  Could have got a VXII for $250 but I have read alot of good things about this scope.  For a $150 bucks I'll give it a shot, I've seen many people compare it to a VXII.  I know everyone is backordered on these, worth a shot.

It's the same over here in Australia too!!! When I ordered my Redfield binos, spotter and RF last week I asked the salesman about Redfields scopes and he said that just in Australia there are 5000 Redfield scopes on backorder!!!

I can't imagine them being much worse than a VX-I. I've had two VX-I's and had issues with both. I actually had the first one and I had to send it into Leupold for repair twice. In addition to that the optics weren't very good in it. Honestly, my two $40-50 Simmons scopes outperformed the Leupolds optically in low light, and in day light, I couldn't tell a difference.

The next VX-I I had, a friend had and his also quit holding zero. By that point, he was fed up with it and sold it to me really cheap telling me he couldn't trust it again. I got Leupold to repair it, and sold it without ever using it.

I figured maybe the bad optics on the first one were a fluke. However, the second one was about the same optically.

I also compared it to a cheap Tasco I had at the time and two friends said the Tasco looked clearer to them. I couldn't tell a difference, but both of them kept saying the Tasco looked clearer.

Now, I'm in now way saying that the Tasco and Simmons scopes are optically great, as they aren't. They are decent for the price, but they aren't anything special.

That being said, I have seen several scopes worse than both the VX-I, the Tasco, and the Simmons, however, they aren't great. So I can imagine the Redfield being as good as the VX-I simply, because the VX-I isn't that great.

+1 on the fixed 4x though the tv screen wouldn't be that adviseable imho. It didn't sell that well for either redfield or weaver back in the day.
