I was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of the "red-dot" style scopes for a shotgun.  Specifically, I am thinking of adding a red-dot to my Mossberg 835 Ulti-mag which I use to hunt turkeys.  I shoot the 3.5 mags and so there obviously is quite a bit of recoil. Traditionally, how do these scopes hold up under the recoil?  Are they fairly reliable?   I would prefer a camo version and don't want to spend a lot of $.

I'm looking at 2 specifically.  Any thoughts on the Tasco ProPoint PDP2 Red Dot sight in Mossy Oak or the Burris SpeedDot 135 Red Dot sight in Realtree HD? Or any others in that price range? The Burris is about $100 more than the Tasco.  Is it that much better or is it simply the name?  Thanks for the help.

First choice of red dot scopes goes to - you guessed it  -  AIMPOINT.

Burris makes fairly good scopes, I have not had one of their dot scopes but it should hold up well and if I really could absolutely not afford an aimpoint I might buy a burris. I do have a Tasco red dot - intersting thing about them is set it on something solid and move your head slightly and see how much the indicated point of impact changes so it might be usefull if you are willing to cut the barrel off at 18 inches otherwise I'd forget the Tasco it is certainly no good for a slug gun. I put mine on a crossbow where I can line the dot up with the front sight pin to get a relatively consistent 20 yd group.

I have been trying a Pro Point PDP2 on a 357 mag handgun and it has held up well tu that level of recoil.(competitor) asks for consumer reviews and those they have gotten on the Pro Point are quite favorable.  You might like to take a look at them.

I have a Leupold Gilmore on my TC Encore .44MAG. With the higher calibers they reccomend extra rings which are readily available. The scope is octagonal in shape and paralax free. You don't have to keep the red dot in the center of the field of view. I've put 8 out of 10 rds in a 1 1/2" dot at 50 yds with 240 grn. Should be decent for a slug gun out to 100 yds. I've put about 500 rds though the pistol with this scope and have yet to have to re-zero.
