I've been wondering if what some of the differences could be between mid $200 priced red dots and the high dollar ones. It's not like your comparing glass quality on scopes. Can someone enlighten me on this way of thinking?

I'm no expert on red dots so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I've got 2 aimpoint comp M2's, a trijicon red dot the mini that was made by jpoint and rebranded for trijicon in 8 moa, a trijicon reflex 4.5 moa amber dot and a couple millet 3 moa unit for the .22's. I've looked at the strikefire first gen before they made the dot brighter and a few of the primary arms clones. All of the units are nice, it comes down to what you want to use it for. My aimpoint's I know I can drop the gun on its optic and not worry about it (within reason). My trijicon reflex is built like a tank as well. My $100 millets... Not so much. Don't get me wrong I love my millets but I'm not about to put one on my hunting rifle. What I've noticed as far as the "glass" is concerned, is what I don't notice. I don't see the glass I don't see glare or reflection and I don't see distortion. I see a nice sharp dot. I've never picked up my aimpoint and found a dead battery. Or my reflex for that matter (yes that was a joke). Although I did have an issue with my reflex dimming after 13 years. I called up trijicon to date the unit and they didn't have it in there system. They relamped it for free. I expected them to tell me it was a fake or something. I told them I bought it used and how long I had it for but they didn't charge me for it. You don't find that kind of service anywhere in a company that makes cheap optics. Back to batteries, my millets I have found dead from time to time. 100% my fault, I forgot to turn them off. But the electronics on my aimpoint's don't use squat for juice. I can leave the cover off my reflex for 2 months before I have to replace the battery. With the cover on until you need it, I don't know. It's got the same battery for 2 years now.

So the moral of the story if you can follow my pre coffee rambling. My spelling punctuation and grammar are horrible. And if you want a red dot for a plinker buy a cheap one and be happy. Just always keep spare batteries. If you want a red dot to bet you life on pay for it once. If you can't afford it now find some and try them out a cheap one isn't always a bad one. Just figure out what you want it for and the rest is easy. I'm sure this didn't help much but maybe it'll start a conversation that will get you better info. Bottom line is I'm happy with all my red dot and what I've got em mounted on. Switch em up on me and I wouldn't be. Right dot for the right gun.

What about using them with both eyes open? Seems the tube type would be harder to use that way then the non tube type?

Aimpoints were made to be shot with both eyes open.
