Hi all, I'm trying to find info and guidance. I'm a amateur photographer who uses telephoto lenses. Were talking 600mm lens with a tele-converter to get out to 1200mm. At that range and focus, aiming is quite difficult on an immobile object let alone on one that is moving. Now I have managed to get hold of an attachment for my camera that will fit a Weaver sight mount (both 3/8 and 7/8). Now I'm trying to source a good red dot sight that will do the job. Range is anywhere from 100 yards to 1/4 mile. The scope needs to be waterproof and of good solid build with fitted caps. I'm prepared to spend about $400 US on it and I either need to be able to get it here in the UK or have it shopped over from the USA. Can anybody offer ideas on what they think might be the best solution possible please.

I'm not sure how you'd go about setting it up to begin with but for a red dot thats durable and weather proof and reliable in your price range -

if you want something smaller the burris fastfire would be my recommendation for that.

I dont know if you can get an aimpoint scope there.   SWFA will not ship outside the US due to Customs Regs and other issues. This is what you are looking for.  Also remember that out of focus highlights take on the maximum shape of the aperture (this can be fun knowledge putting heart shapes on candles or christmas lights but knowing can save you some aggrivation)  I've done a lot of photography when you talk about a 600mm with a 2x  on it I have to say you are headed toward a lot of frustration - I've been there trying to get great shots of whooping cranes. Often the best solution is getting closer and using camo like a ghillie suit  or a blind etc.  What is the subject matter I may have other suggestions.  Not sure why it would need to be a red dot because any scope would act like the small scope typically attached to astronomical telescopes and a variable magnification might be useful.

This should be more along the line of what I would suggest great glass relatively low power. No batteries to fail .
