Need recommendations for a spotting scope for the range. Want to spend under $200. Targets normally at 100 yards, occasionally 200 yards. Purely a range scope used in good light conditions. Shooting a .223. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks.

Anything in that price range is gonna be a little hard to get behind quickly but I think Vortex Impact or Zen Ray Sedona would work ok for you
Burris also has a couple that would be good too.

In addition I would also suggest the Celestron Ultima 65 or 80. Both offer excellent performance under the $200 price point.

Also noticed the Bushnell FLP ED 60 for just under $200 at one store.

Barska 20-60x70 Blackhawk, 2.5 lbs, 16"
Burris 15-45x60 Landmark $160 24 oz, 13"
Burris 20-60x80 Landmark $200, 42 oz, 17"
Burris 25-75x70 XTS2575 (Cassegrain) Spotter $209, 2lbs, 10"

Randy Wakeman likes the compact Burris 12-24x50 Landmark compact for $130, under 1 lb and about 8" long! I like the XTS2575, and the Leupold Sequoia 15-45x60  better - but the latter is outside of your budget ($280).

Pls let us know how your purchase works out!

I'm in the same boat as the OP except I will be spotting 30-06 and  22.  The models I am considering are:
Celestron Ultima 80
Celestron Maksutov 90
Vortex Impact

I borrowed my father-in-laws Promaster (?) 18-36x60 and took it to the range yesterday.  I was only on the 100yd range but at 100yds and 36x the 30-06 was real easy to pick up the 22 was visible but not nearly as clear, even with the splatter paper.  At that range the numbers on the paper were a bit fuzzy so using it on the 200 yd range would probably be almost worthless.  Is that due to the 36x just not being enough magnification or is it due to this being a low cost unit?  I have no idea as this is the first scope I have ever looked through at the range.

I'm able to see 22 caliber holes at 200 yards with this scope.

West,  Do you know how the Burris XTS2575 compares in clarity to the Burris 20-60x80 Landmark?  My guess is they are both fine for <100yds so I am most curious to see how they compare >100yds.

Thanks.
