Looking at replacing my Remington SPS Varmint stock with something better. Right now the stock is NOT free floated or bedded and the forend pushes on the barrel, especially when it gets hot outside and begins to spray verticle simply after 5 shots. Let me start by saying I'm NOT a competitive shooter who is willing to spend HC Precision $$. So please keep that in mind when replying. I will be using it for 80% Target Plinking 300 yard or less, and 20% Deer Hunting in NC 300 yards or less.

I'm leaning toward a Bell & Carlson Medalist Hunting stock, but someone also said Hogue is very good as well. Hogue is 1/2 the cost, and I'm wondering if it's 1/2 the quality?

Thoughts?

For a budget, I'd do what Bigdaddy said. Otherwise keep your eye on the classifieds over at Snipers hide and find an HS take off from a PSS or similar.

Nothing wrong with Hogue stocks ... although many tend to feel bulky and / or clubby. If it were my choice, I too would go with the BC Medalist.

The Hogue has more flex than I would prefer (have a friend with a 308 in the Hogue, I don't like it at all!)

It has been my experience that:
1.  The SPS stocks might be the worst rifle stock ever sold.
2.  You get what you pay for in rifle stocks.

Almost anything other than the stock you now have is better - I say that, having owned more than a few of that same stock.  I think I still have 1 or 2 in my attic, you can't even sell the damned things.

I haven't shot the B&C so cannot say on that, but would also recommend you keep an eye out for a used HS or better.  I know spending more hurts, sometimes allot, but it might be worth saving for a little longer to get something that fits you and the action well.
Freedom is something you take.
Respect is something you earn.
Equality is something you whine about not being given.

I will say this.  I took the hogue stock that came on my SPS tactical and epoxy bedded a steel rod into the foreend of it and also glass bedded the action at the time.  IT was 100% better than original but it was still a hogue.

I have a couple B&C stocks, they are decent.  HS is better IMO, Hogue is worse IMO.

I would look for a HS stock on midway or something if it were me.

+1 on Stockys. When I have checked they seem to have the best prices on stocks.

Stockys are the SWFA of rifle stock vendors.
I even "like" them on my Fakebook page.

+2 on the Stocky's.I bought a Bob Hart  thumb hole with an aluminum bed for a .308 that I had .It had a HS stock on it, thought it was every  bit as good + I was able to add a magazine & got rid of the floor plate.Great stocks at a reasonable price!

My first choice would be McMillan personally.  Expensive and worth it.

My next rifle will wear one (McMillan) along with a Leica 3-12x50 ERi scope.   Bucky

I do too, the stock that the Tikka normally comes with is one of the reasons why I don't own one.
