Hello All,

I recently picked up a new rifle and it's a DPMS 308B.  It's a semi auto, free floated rifle with an 18" heavy barrel.  I had one years ago, but had to sell it for free up funds for the baby.  The one I used to have shot right at or under 1/2" at 100 yards depending on ammo and how I was doing that day.  I had a millett TRS-1 on it and didn't have any complaints about that scope.  I got out to 700 yards with it pretty easily, but had to sell it before I got a chance to really stretch it out.  It is only an 18" barrel on a 308 though, so it's not like I'm going to be getting much more distance out of it than that anyway.

This time around I changed the rifle somewhat and put a 6 position stock on it to make it more compact for travel, and possible more convenient to hunt with if that ever happened.  I'm bringing that up because I'm not sure I want a big bulky scope like the Millett TRS-1 again.  It worked fine last time, but on this setup I don't know if it'd be the right scope.

I intend to use this rifle at the range 99% of it's life, but like with any gun I own, I want to able to take it hunting on a moments notice if the right occation should arise.  I'm not shooting in competition or watching out for teammates on a mission.  I'm just shooting for the love of the game.

I prefer variable power, but I'm open to a fixed 10x.  I have a bushnell 3200 10x that I really like, but I'm not sure if it'd be the right scope for this rifle either.

As far as budget goes, no less than $200 and probably no more than $500, but that can be give or take within reason.

   What do you all recommend?

Well guys, in my search for the perfect scope I came across a deal on a new millett TRS-1 that was just too good to pass up.   The one I used to have worked just fine, and ideally I'd have bought something better, but in this case I just came across way to good of a deal to pass up.

I'll probably buy the SS 3-9 eventually, but I came across too good of a deal on the TRS-1 and I really like the illuminated variable scope.  The reticle in the last one I had was great for target shooting.

Buy once, cry once.......  I changed my mind.  I loved my old TRS-1 and the new one is just as good except that I forgot something.  There's no lines to keep track of how many times you've rotated the elevation knob.  For tha ranges I want to shoot at this is a no go.  So go figure I have returned it from where it came and ordered a SWFA 10X with side focus.

I've tried ordering the regular $300 SS 10X a couple times and each time it was out of stock.  I'd get impatient and cancel the order.  My fault not SWFA's.  Today, I just placed an order for the $400 SS10X and I hope it's everything those scopes are cracked up to be.

I think it'll be a nice setup on that rifle or any other I decide to jump it around on.
