i received my 10x42M SS scope earlier this week. didnt really get a chance to handle and play with it until today.

1st thing i noticed was a spec of dirt Inside the scope, near the outer rim at 1 o'clock position.

2nd was the Mushy elevation knob. i can hear an Audible click Only if i turn it back and forth FAST.  when i turn it slow, i cant hear anything and the firm click turns into a mushy feel.

the windage knob has a Crisp loud audible click when i turn it up/ down, slow/ fast. No problems with the windage knob.

i am debating whether i should  take a chance and return it to SWFA and get Another SS scope, or just upgrade to an IOR10X42T for $730.

after doing a Search on the SS i notice alot of people still have problems with Mushy Knobs and a small percentage of people experiencing dirty lenses. i really dont want to waste my money sending the SS scope  back Several times until i get one that is non defective. maybe the IOR is the way to go?

the elevation knob doesnt really bother me, its the spec of dirt inside the scope that does. IF i ever decide to sell my rifle with scope or scope by itself.. that little spec of dirt is gonna Diminish my Re-sale value.  after a closer inspection outdoors in bright light, that spec of dirt looks like a piece of Metal shaving.

If your sure the spec of dirt is on the inside, I would call SWFA and see if they would replace it for you.

You could always try to "knock the spec loose" as well.

SWFA wants you to be happy. If your not happy, give them a call.

My SS has audible clicks and not mushy at all.

i might take the chance and try another SS.  i noticed the IOR only has 100 MOA adjustment range vs the SS 120 MOA adjustment.. i have a 20 MOA scope base.. will the IOR 100moa be enuf to zero properly?

also, will the front/rear butler creek 10x42 flip up covers off the SS also fit the IOR 10x42 scope? or do i need to exchange those also if i upgrade to the IOR10X42T.

and the "spec/metal shaving" definitely will not come Loose.

The spec is most likely  a microscopic piece of the interior anodizing that has not been cleaned out, despite the clean room like environment the scopes are assembled in.  It may never move and certainly does not hurt the scope in any way.

In fact, I bet it looks alot like the one in my $1200.00 MkIV M3.

re: turrets

remove the elevation turret, wipe off the grease, replace with a very light coating of dielectric silicone lube from an auto parts supply. ( spark plug boot lube )  Instant clicks.

hopefully my 2nd scope wont have any problems. if it does, i'll send it back and upgrade to the IOR10X42T
