Just ordered a New RRA coyote rifle .223 and will be using for long range target (600m) and for coyote hunting as well, i want a scope that is going to be good for long range as well as some close encounters that may occur while hunting. Got it narrowed down to a few scopes. Im after clarity mainly but dont want to spend big $$$ on a scope thats going to be used in the field more than it is at the range. Rank these following in which you feel is my best bet for my situation. Thanks

Nikon Monarch 5-20x44mm BDC Reticle
Nikon M-223 3-12x42mm BDC 600 reticle
Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42mm Ballistic plex
Millett BuckGold 4-16x56mm Plex
Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x40mm Multi-X

I also think the monarch has the best glas here, but I'd want something with alittle lower end incase things got "fast and furious".

You would be far better advised to put a fixed power 6x42 Super Sniper or a 3-9x42 Super Sniper on it and learn to dial in correction for distance. You said this will be used in the field. Go to a store and try to hand hold a scope higher than 6 power while you aim notice how at the power range goes up it becomes harder to control the wobble factor. Note that a 6x42 scope is bright and any higher power will not be as bright of an optic. You could go up to a fixed 10x HD Super Sniper but I cant see spending that on a .223.  I also suggest that 600 yds is highly ambitious for most .223 ammunition to group well enough to work so you are looking for a 75 or 77 gr bullet if you want it to work in the magazines and an 80 gr if you load them single shot which seems to me to defeat the purpose of an AR. It also means you have to be using a 1 in 7 or 1 in 8 twist and it is likely that rifle has that. I would suggest that the .223 with a 69 gr bullet is a good 200 to 300 yd rifle and that past that one should use something else. I think the most suitable mount is the la Rue Tactical Mount but GG&G also makes a good one.  Numerous companies make one in the hundred dollar range but the twice the price La Rue is well worth the money.

thanks for all the responses, also great looking setup imaginary friend, been leaning more towards the monarch day by day. Is there anything out there as good as quality cheaper, or anything better quality for the same price?

I'd go with either what URIMAGINARYFRND recommended or the Nikon M223 scope you have selected.
Yea the Monarch may have better glass, but the M223 is already ballisticly setup for the .223 round. Sight in at 100 yards and you are set. Just my opinion--Bboy623

Honestly, there isn't a scope in that least that I would put at the top of the list for your usage.  Probably not even in the top three.

What you are looking for is something along the lines of a 4-16x42 or thereabouts.

I suggest you take a good look at Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40, Elite 6500 2.5-16x42, Sightron S2 Big sky 4-16x42 or 4.5-14x44.

For a little less money, try Hawke Sidewinder 30 Tactical 4.5-14x42

Just what gn bullet and barrel length is the Nikon M-223 3-12x42mm BDC 600 reticle set up for? Just because it is a .223 BDC does not mean it works with all gn .223 and/or barrel lengths. Plus what magnification is the .223 BDC set up to use?
